Our Teaching Staff
WELCOME BACK TO OUR 2011-2012 TEACHING ARTISTS

Barbara Klein (Ballet) Is the co-founder and Director of Artistic Development. She was classically trained at Ballet Russe and danced with the original Radio City Music Hall Ballet.She toured with West Side Story, and danced with various National Ballet Companies. Ms. Klein is a Certified Board of Education Dance Teacher, currently the director of the Dance Department at Wings Academy High School.

Darlene Carr (Jazz, Tap) studied at the Broadway Dance Center and Lehman College with Joan Miller, where she was with the Dance Players Apprentice Company. She toured with the Reebok Demo Team, was the dance specialist for the Bronx Parks and Recreation Department. Darlene has taught for Bronx Dance Theater, Bronx Council on the Arts, Kingsbridge Heights Community Center, the Riverdale Y, and the SAR Academy.

Olyda Espinal (Flamenco) attended LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts and has studied flamenco with Maya de Silva, Soledad Barrios of Noche Flamenca, Nelida Tirado, Raul Ortega, Omayra Amaya, Marco de Ana & Elena Andujar, Manuel Gago,Alfonso Cid and Aurora Reyes. In addition to the Bronx Dance Theatre, Olyda has taught for Bronx House, Flamenco Latino, Carlota Santana Flamenco Vivo and various public school residencies.She is also a singer and is heard on the albums of Los Hermanos Cintrons. Olyda has performed at Jacobs Pillow and Symphony Space with Flamenco Revolution and at Xicala .
Sura George (Hip-Hop,West African)was trained at the Harlem School of the Arts. She danced with the Hip-Hop troupe “KRTTT”. In addition to teaching our children’s Hip-Hop and West African classes, she is currently teaching Hip-Hop at the Celenes Torribio Modeling School.
Courtney McClain (Hip-Hop,Belly Dance) is having a great time working with our children, and teens. She teaches Hip-Hop and Cabaret Style Egyptian Belly Dance. Her classes are action packed ,energetic and fun for all ages. Courtney has performed at Middle Eastern venues all over the city including“Tagine”,” and the “Lafayette Bar and Grill”. She also choreographs and performs at special events such as bridal showers. Courtney frequently travels to Los Angeles, California to study at Millennium Dance Complex. She recently attended the Dance Teachers Summit where she was able to take class with Mandy Moore,FrankHatchett and Tony Dovolani. She is currently working on her Degree at LehmanCollege.
Leah Revi (Pre-Dance, Ballet)Leah Revi continues to be the Pied Piper of our Pre-Dance students as well as our Ballet A dancers. She also lays the foundations with our Teen Beginner Ballet and Modern classes . Ms. Leah studied dance at BDT since age 5 . She has a BA in Early Childhood Education is currently working on a Masters in Education.

Sandy Tashtash (Pre-Ballet/Tap) has trained with Earl Mosley as well as at the Bronx Dance Theatre. She has completed the teacher apprenticeship at BDT under the direction of our Early Childhood Specialist, Leah Revi. Currently pursuing a degree at Lehman College.
Yvette Williams (Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary) started dancing at BDT at the age of 7.Her training led her to the LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts. She toured Europe with the Awakening Dance Company,appeared in a Regional theatre production of "Bubbling Brown Sugar"and danced with C&C Music Factory. Over the years she was BDT Dance Captain and a special Assistant to the Artistic Director Barbara Klein. She was also theArtistic Director of the Bronx Dance Academy (MS 308).
