  • JANUARY 14, 2012   Dance Educators of America
                                                Regional Competition

BDT students return to the Dance Competition  Circuit  with the
Dance Educators of America  Regional Competitions
on January14,2012 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel located on
Park Avenue at Grand Central Station,New York, NY 10017.
Admission is free and our groups will take the stage at around 1:45pm.

Our Teen Group will be performing a Middle Eastern Belly Dance routine in the Ethnic Category"Amiret El Sahara" ( Desert Princess).

Our Senior Group will be performing an Uptempo Ballet routine in the Pointe Category "Ichi Ni Sun Shi".

In addition to the  Regional Competition and Performing Opportunities our dancers and Teachers will attend a Dance Workshop all day on Sunday January 15,2012. They will get to study with Dance Masters and Guest Choreographers from all over the United States.

If our dancers  place at Regionals we will be back for the National Competition in July!

 

  • DECEMBER 18,2011    Not’Cracker Ballet 

BDT  will present the Not'Cracker Ballet on Sunday December 18,2011.
Performance begins at 2pm at Lehman HS 3000 East Tremont Ave.
All seats are $20.00 RESERVED SEATING.
Tickets go on SALE Saturday November 12,2011.

 “It’s Christmas Eve and Celeste is still searching for a very special gift. Her parents take her and her friends to a Magical Toy Emporium. The enchanted toys sometimes come to life but….can only be seen by the children.” 

In its third year of development, this brand new BDT classic is a must see! This unique twist on the Nutcracker Ballet includes new music and choreography in a variety of Dance techniques including Ballet, Contemporary, Belly Dance, Tap, Hip-Hop, and Flamenco.

Over 75 young dancers between the ages of 6 and 18 will help create the magic in roles from dancing Mice to Belly Dancing Sugar Plum Fairies and Hip-Hopping Raggedy Ann dolls. This new holiday production is a treat for the whole family. There are over 250 costumes, sets, props and more!

Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased at BDT. Our main entrance is located at 2400 Hoffman Street, corner of 187th Street in Little Italy. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

 

  • NOVEMBER 11-13,2011   “Traditions in Tap” 

15 of BDT’s Tap students ( of Darlene Carr and Yvette Williams) will attend the Traditions in Tap Three day Convention on November 11 -13th at Nola Rehearsal Studios 250 West 54th St , New York City.

They will warm-up  each day with Denise Caston, Prof. Clare O'Donnell, Germaine Salsberg, Avi Miller & Ofer Ben, who will lead the afternoon / morning tap drills - each with his/her own unique teaching style.

They will take Master Tap classes with Karen Callaway-Williams ,Barbara Duffy ,Acia Gray ,Josh Hilberman ,
Prof. Robert L. Reed ,Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards and Nicholas Young  to name a few.

Sarah Petronio will be presented with the Tradition In Tap Award for: "Outstanding Achievements & Significant Contribution To The Tradition And Art Of Tap Dance

Leading Tap artists will teach reflections on Sarah Petronio's legacy through their personal work. Each will draw on Petronio's influence and contribution to his / her own career.

Germaine Salsberg will emcee an informal Participants Showcase and our students will have an opportunity to strut their stuff for the Tap Masters.
